A survey of Art Song literature from its inception to present day. The goal of this course is to explore the emergence and development of Song from Europe and the Americas and to acquire a language to describe the style characteristics of this type of vocal literature. Topics to be covered include: Italian song, German Lieder,French Mélodie, Russian Song, Scandinavian Song, American Song, Canadian Song including an introduction to Music of Canadian Indigenous Peoples.
